The Opportunity V7 Recruitment is currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical & Process Commissioning Engineer to join a major industrial and manufacturing project in Berlin.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a large-scale, technically complex project, taking responsibility for commissioning activities across a range of mechanical, process and utility systems.

Working closely with the wider engineering and construction teams, you will act as the technical lead on site, overseeing commissioning activities, coordinating field technicians and managing specialist subcontractors and suppliers to ensure systems are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute pre-commissioning, commissioning and startup activities across mechanical, process and utility systems.

  • Carry out system walkdowns, functional testing and troubleshooting across HVAC, dust collection, exhaust, water treatment, natural gas, liquid nitrogen, compressed air and other utility systems.

  • Lead and coordinate site technicians and field teams throughout commissioning activities.

  • Oversee third-party suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring commissioning works are completed to the required technical and quality standards.

  • Prepare, review and maintain commissioning documentation, including test procedures, checklists, punch lists and system handover packages.

  • Coordinate daily with engineering, construction, manufacturing, technical services and subcontractor teams.

  • Support the development of commissioning scopes, packages and technical requirements.

  • Identify and resolve technical issues during commissioning, escalating complex matters where necessary.

  • Ensure all commissioning activities comply with relevant German regulations, technical standards and permit requirements.

  • Monitor progress against project schedules, helping to identify opportunities to improve efficiency and programme delivery.

  • Maintain high standards of quality, ensuring systems are fully tested, documented and ready for final handover.

Requirements
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 5–8 years' experience in a commissioning engineering role within complex industrial, manufacturing or similar large-scale projects.

  • Strong hands-on commissioning experience across mechanical, process and utility systems.

  • Previous experience leading technicians, commissioning teams or field-based engineering crews.

  • Experience overseeing specialist subcontractors and third-party suppliers.

  • Good understanding of German technical standards, regulations and commissioning documentation requirements.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. German language skills would be advantageous.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Autodesk software.

  • Comfortable working in a hands-on, site-based role, with a significant amount of time spent in the field.

  • Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced project environment, managing multiple priorities and demanding deadlines.
