Fire Alarm Design Estimator

Location: Southend-on-Sea | Hybrid | Essex / Kent / London
Job Type: Full-Time
Salary: £40,000–£45,000 DOE
Reports to: Minor Projects Manager

The Role

We’re looking for an experienced Fire Alarm Design Estimator to join our growing PFS Minor Projects team.

You’ll take projects from tender through to handover, combining technical fire alarm expertise with accurate estimating and practical design.

You’ll review specifications, produce compliant designs, prepare quotations and support project teams throughout delivery.

Strong knowledge of BS 5839 Parts 1, 6, 8 & 9 and commercial estimating experience is essential.

What You’ll Do

  • Review tender drawings, specifications and project requirements.

  • Produce accurate quotations for fire alarm projects, upgrades and maintenance.

  • Create design drawings, schematics, cause & effect matrices and equipment schedules.

  • Ensure designs comply with BS 5839, BS 9999, Building Regulations and client requirements.

  • Work with consultants, clients, architects and contractors to develop practical solutions.

  • Support Project Managers and commissioning teams with technical queries.

  • Attend site surveys and pre-tender meetings when required.

  • Maintain accurate estimating and design records.

What You’ll Bring

  • Experience in fire alarm design and estimating.

  • FIA, Zues, Level 3 or equivalent BS 5839 design qualification.

  • Confident interpreting construction drawings and specifications.

  • AutoCAD or similar design software experience.

  • Strong commercial, numerical and analytical skills.

  • Experience with estimating software, CRM and Microsoft Office.

  • Knowledge of systems including Gent, Notifier, Siemens, Advanced, C-Tec, Hochiki, Morley, Apollo or similar.

  • A detail-focused, organised and commercially aware approach.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
